50 Years of Makrolon®

Well placed for the future

Bayer currently has a total production capacity of some 740,000 tons of Makrolon® at four sites – Antwerpen (Belgium), Baytown (USA, Texas), Krefeld-Uerdingen (Germany), Map Ta Phut (Thailand) - around the world.

The high-tech plastic has a roughly thirty percent share of the global polycarbonate market. In Europe, the company is the market leader with Makrolon®, and plans to make significant investments in the growing market for this plastic in the future, particularly in China.

New fields of application are still emerging, even after fifty years.

On its fiftieth birthday we can proudly state: Makrolon® plays a major role in daily life – and is a truly timeless invention.
