Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying
With its innovative Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying polyurethane system, Bayer MaterialScience is now offering an alternative to solvent-based polyesters.
It is said that the Greek mathematician Archimedes shouted "Eureka, eureka!" when he discovered the physical law of fluid displacement while taking a bath. Legend has it that, in his excitement, he ran home stark-naked through the streets of the Greek port of Syracuse. However, had the Porsche bathtub from Keramag AG been available at the time, Archimedes may well not have made that famous faux pas. Presented for the first time at the international sanitaryware trade show in Frankfurt in spring 2005, the clean lines and dynamic design of this luxury tub are guaranteed to fire the imagination, but it would take more than just a bright idea to make you get out of such a relaxing bath in a hurry!
Stepping into the future
Nowadays, plastics are the material of choice when it comes to manufacturing attractive and comfortable bathroom suites. In fact, producing an innovative masterpiece like the Porsche bathtub would not even be possible without leading-edge raw material systems and technologies from Bayer MaterialScience. The base of the bathtub is made using the Baydur® polyurethane system and Thüringen-based DECS GmbH, the company that produces the bathtubs for Keramag, uses the innovative Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying polyurethane system to reinforce the underside of the actual tub. This glass fiber-reinforced multiple-component polyurethane system gives the finished product the stability it needs.
"We are delighted that, just as users step into this new bathtub, we are stepping into a whole new market," says Dr. Marc Schütze, a polyurethanes expert at Bayer MaterialScience. "Since the market launch of Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying last year, we've made rapid progress and now have projects in a wide range of fields."
A key quality characteristic of the new range is the use of leading-edge materials and state-of-the-art processing.
The new Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying polyurethane system and Baydur® rigid integral skin foam are used in the manufacture of the Porsche bathtub from Keramag AG.
