In order to ensure a rapid implementation at our customers' plants, we have drawn up a process model on the basis of our experience in several VMI-projects, which consists of four steps:
Step 1: Reaching agreement with the customer (agreement)
A common understanding of VMI between the customer and the supplier is absolutely necessary in order to initiate the process with the customer. As soon as this has been achieved, the details will be recorded in a specific VMI agreement.
Step 2: Inspection of the plant (evaluation)
To prepare the installation of necessary hardware for the stock data acquisition and to clarify technical issues, an inspection of the plant and the appropriate storage facilities is necessary.
Step 3: Installation of the hardware (installation)
Once the commercial and technical details have been clarified, the next step is to install and calibrate the measuring equipment at the storage facilities which were provided by the customer. Tests can be carried out online.
Step 4: Commissioning the system (go-live)
After successful tests, VMI is ready for rollout. Exclusive employees of the supplier will be granted access to the Bayer VMI-portal and get an detailed instruction in using the system.
The system is now ready for active usage!
Alternatively to the implementation plan above it is possible to transmit the stock data by file transfer. In these cases steps 2 and 3 would not be necessary.
