New Business - Bayer MaterialScience

The New Business (NB) department, under the management of Manfred Rink (EMEA/APAC) and Barry Phillips (NAFTA/LA), safeguards the long-term future of our company and is thus a core element of the Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) growth and innovation strategy.

NB works very closely with the Business Units (BUs), acting as a connecting link throughout the entire BMS organization. For this reason, NB reports directly to the Board of Management. The objective of NB is to exploit synergies as effectively as possible in order to identify and create new business opportunities above and beyond the existing BMS portfolio of products and processes.

NB is divided into:
New Technologies
Creative Center
Industry Innovation

New Technologies (NT) goes beyond the research activities of the Business Units and concentrates on fundamental technical innovations in chemical and material science that have the potential to lead to new products and methods. NT achieves this objective by managing innovative activities in both an internal network and a large external network of institutions, colleges/universities and companies.

The Creative Center (CC) focuses on the needs of the market in the next 10 to 15 years. CC analyzes market trends by conducting workshops with architects, design engineers and our customers, all working together to shape the future. On this basis, CC initiates innovative projects with high growth potential for BMS.

Industry Innovation (IND) works together with NT, CC and the Marketing and Technical Service departments of the Business Units to further develop market-ready products and technologies for use in new applications. Projects initiated by CC, for example, are launched on the market by IND and then transferred to the BUs. IND further manages marketing platforms, such as AutoCreative.
