Control is better – the motto of the Testing Technology departments at Bayer MaterialScience. The teams are responsible for subjecting products and parts to a whole range of stringent tests, thereby contributing to product innovation.
The testing labs are an integral part of the global network of the Technical Center. With a broad portfolio of standardized and application-specific test methods, they support the development of materials and applications, not only within the various development centers of Bayer MaterialScience, but also as part of customer projects. For all the laboratories in the network, expanding the testing expertise is an absolute priority, as is documented by accreditations and certifications in many countries.
Range of tasks, examples
Testing Technology is integrated into all steps of the product creation process and also supports product optimization. Depending on the particular requirement, it either uses existing test methods (possibly after modification) or it develops new ones. The members of the test teams are open to the needs of the market: Customers define the testing technology specifications and these are then technically implemented as quickly as possible.
The examples provide a cross section of the activities of the Polyurethanes Business Unit's Testing Technology department in Leverkusen. In Uerdingen, the testing activities are performed by the Thermoplastics Testing Center of the Polycarbonates Business Unit.
